The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has asked banks to send account details of actor Shakib Khan in order to assess his actual income.
Banks have been asked to send information about the actor’s account as well as members of his family who depend on income earned by Khan, according to a letter from the NBR.
The tax administration ordered banks to provide information on all types of bank accounts, including savings and current accounts and investments in savings certificates created by Shakib.
In addition to this, banks will have to submit the transaction information of the foreign currency account, credit card maintained by Shakib. The NBR also wanted information on the actor’s assets in the banks’ locker and vault.
BNR asked the bank to submit transaction figures and assets that settled or kept in the locker and safe between July 2013 and June 2021.
There have been some discrepancies between income and expenses mentioned by Shakib in his tax return, said a senior NBR official who seeks to remain anonymous.
In this context, the BNR took the initiative to assess its real income, the official said, adding that this was a regular job of the tax administration.
An official at a commercial bank said they received the letter on Thursday and are now working on it.
